The name Tegat originates from the local Kipsigis dialect “Tekiat”, which simply means Bamboo, signifying a place for bamboo. Tegat Tea Factory is located in Belgut Division, Waldai Location of Kericho County. The factory was set up due to increased Green Leaf production in the region, that is widely known for production of high quality teas.

Our company profile


WHEN
Tegat Tea Factory was initially commissioned by James Finlays in October 1971. The tea factory was later handed over to KTDA in 1974, to ensure effective management.

WHERE
Tegat Tea Factory is located in Belgut Division, Waldai Location in Kericho County. The factory is positioned 7 kilometers South of the Cherote (Kaptebeswet) junction along the Kericho-Kisumu road. Additionally, it is 4 km from Kapsuser Market on the Kericho-Litein-Sotik road or 9 kilometers from Sosiot market on the Sondu road.

Corporate Social Responsibility
Tegat Tea Factory utilizes the tea access road funds to maintain rural access roads in the catchment area. Additionally, the factory collaborates with APHIA II Rift Valley and the Ministry of Public Health, to conduct awareness campaigns on HIV/AIDS and Malaria. Moreso, the factory takes the lead in Sustainable Agriculture initiatives (SA) by supplying seedlings for afforestation and environmental conservation.
